In this document:

  • Can I use my existing server?
  • How much does CLERK cost?
  • What steps are involved in upgrading?
  • Can all my existing data be imported into CLERK 2?
  • Can I run my existing software and CLERK simultaneously?
  • Can I run my current software and CLERK on the same server?
  • What about my service contract with the current vendor?

Can I use my existing server?
In most cases, yes. Your existing server must be running Windows NT/2000/XP Pro or Linux, and meet the minimum hardware requirements for CLERK 2. It must not have InterBase/Firebird installed.

How much does CLERK cost?
The list price for CLERK 2 is $2,500. If you are upgrading from certain competitive products, a "competitive upgrade discount" may be available. Please ask us!

What steps are involved in upgrading?
(1) Backup your server. (2) Export existing data, if required. (3) Install CLERK 2 and obtain license key. (4) Import data, if required. (5) Configure CLERK 2 server and train staff.

Can all my existing data be imported into CLERK 2?
Usually it can, assuming your existing data can be exported to a non-proprietary format/language such as CSV, tab-delimited or SQL. Many vendors use proprietary formats which do not let you export data for use in other software. You should check with your current vendor to see what "export formats" their software uses. Additionally, the database structure differs from vendor to vendor. For example, some allow 48 letters in a name while others allow only 32. If fields in the current vendor's data do not match those in CLERK 2, some data may need to be truncated or omitted. We are happy to work with you on importing your data.

Can I run my existing software and CLERK simultaneously?
Yes. For example, you can keep your old system online to access "archives" while entering new information into CLERK. Note that the two systems will not communicate with each other, so to avoid entering data twice, you should plan for a "cutoff date" when you will stop entering data into the old system.

Can I run my current software and CLERK on the same server?
In most cases, yes. Your existing server must be running Windows NT/2000/XP Pro or Linux, and meet the minimum hardware requirements for CLERK 2. It must not have InterBase/Firebird installed.

What about my service contract with the current vendor?
Generally you can allow your existing service contract to lapse and still run your old software (e.g. for archival purposes). Service agreements normally only cover technical support and upgrades, neither of which may be required if the software is simply fills an "archive" role. Of course, we are not able to provide you with specific legal advice on this topic.
